How do I create and manage message templates in SurroundR?
Build reusable templates for LinkedIn DMs and InMails so your team sends consistent, personalized outreach at scale.
Message templates let you pre-write LinkedIn Direct Messages and InMails that your team can use when reaching out to prospects. To manage them, go to Settings > Message templates.
Create a new template
- Click + New template in the top right.
- Give your template a name — pick something descriptive so your team can find it quickly (e.g., "Profile view follow-up" or "Intro after event").
- Select a language for the template.
- Set the scope:
- Account — Available to everyone on your SurroundR account.
- Personal — Only visible to you.
- Write the message body.
- Save the template.
Use personalization placeholders
Templates support Handlebars placeholders that automatically insert contact data when the message is sent. Wrap the field name in double curly braces:
- — Inserts the contact's first name.
For example:
Hey , noticed you viewed my profile. Anything specific that caught your attention?
When your team uses this template, is replaced with the actual contact's first name from LinkedIn.
Find and filter templates
The message templates page includes:
- A search bar to find templates by name.
- A scope filter to show only account-level or personal templates.
- A language filter to narrow down templates by language.
Manage existing templates
Each template row shows the name, language, scope, and a preview of the message body. On the right, you'll find two action buttons:
- Copy — Duplicates the template so you can create a variant without starting from scratch.
- Delete — Permanently removes the template.
Good to know
- Message templates are for LinkedIn DMs and InMails only. For personalized video messages, use Chirps instead.
- Account-scoped templates are shared with your entire team. Personal templates are only visible to the person who created them.
- Keep templates short and conversational — LinkedIn messages that read like mass emails get ignored.
- You can create templates in multiple languages to support outreach in different markets.
