Hubspot locked permissions

Can't select some permissions when connecting HubSpot? Here's how to unlock them.

When you connect or re-authenticate HubSpot from SurroundR, HubSpot shows a screen listing the permissions (scopes) SurroundR needs. Sometimes one or more of these permissions show a lock icon and you can't select them.

This comes from how HubSpot handles apps, not from SurroundR. If SurroundR was already installed in your HubSpot account and now asks for extra permissions, HubSpot blocks those new permissions on the connect screen until an admin turns them on in the app's settings.

The fix takes about two minutes. You turn the permissions on once in HubSpot, then connect again.

Who can do this: a HubSpot user who can manage connected apps in your account (usually a Super Admin).

Step 1: Start the connection from SurroundR

In SurroundR, go to Integrations and click Authenticate (or Re-authenticate) on the HubSpot integration. You're sent to the HubSpot connect screen.

Step 2: Find the locked permissions

Look for permissions with a lock icon next to them. These are usually listed under Optional. The checkbox next to them is greyed out and can't be selected.

Step 3: Open the app's admin settings

Hover over the lock icon. A tooltip appears saying the permission is disabled for this app by an admin. Click Go to admin settings in that tooltip.

The SurroundR app settings open in HubSpot, on the Installed By tab.

Step 4: Turn on the permissions under Data Permissions

  1. Click the Data Permissions tab.

  2. Go through the list and find every permission whose toggle is off. These are the same permissions that were locked on the connect screen (for example, "View properties and other details about deals").

  3. Click the toggle for each one to turn it on. Each permission has its own toggle, so you need to click each one separately.

  4. Save your changes.

Step 5: Connect again from SurroundR

Go back to SurroundR and click Re-authenticate on the HubSpot integration once more. The connect screen has to be opened again for the change to take effect.

The permissions you turned on can now be selected. Check them and click Connect app.

Still seeing a lock icon?

  • Did you save in HubSpot? Toggles only apply after saving.

  • Did you open a new connect screen? Refreshing the old HubSpot tab is not enough. Start again from Integrations in SurroundR.

  • Did you turn on every permission? Check the Data Permissions list again for any toggle that is still off.

  • Not a HubSpot admin? Ask your HubSpot Super Admin to do Steps 3 and 4, then complete Step 5 yourself.
